SLIPPERY ROCK UNIVERSITY CONCERT CHOIR TO JOIN
BUTLER SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA FOR ‘ALL AMERICAN CONCERT’
FEB. 15
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The 58-voice Slippery
Rock University Concert Choir will be featured at the Butler County
Symphony Orchestra’s “All American Concert” set
for Feb. 15 at Butler Intermediate High School
Auditorium.
The
choir has selected Howard Hansen’s “Song of
Democracy” for the 8 p.m. performance. “We are honored
by their invitation, and we eager to return to the Butler Symphony
stage to perform such an exciting work,” says Paul Laprade,
choir director and assistant professor of music, adding the choir
last performed with the symphony 20 years ago.
The
SRU choir focuses on performing masterworks, including
Faure’s “Requiem” and Beethoven’s
“Choral Fantasy.” The Charlotte [N.C.] Observer
recently described the choir’s performance as
“spirited, rhythmically precise, moving” during a tour
performance in North Carolina.
Elisabeth
Heath-Charles directs the Butler Symphony, which will also offer
John Williams’ “Liberty Fanfare” and Aaron
Copland’s “Lincoln Portrait,” among other
works.
Tickets
are available by calling the symphony at
724-283-1402.
