SRU Alumni Association awards nearly $11,000 in scholarships        

 

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University Alumni Association Scholarship and Awards Committee has selected 13 students to receive more than $11,000 in academic scholarships for the coming academic year.

        The recipients will be recognized April 19 at the association's annual awards dinner in the Russell Wright Alumni House and Conference Center.

       The Maree McKay/Esther Smiley Scholarship ($1,000) was awarded to:

       Kathryn Bobal                     Reynoldsville                 Park and Resource Management

       Teresa DeBacco                 West Sunbury                Dance

       Eileen Martini                      Merrittstown                 Dance  

       Alicia Molter                       Plain City, Ohio             Therapeutic Recreation

       Meghan Rice                      Clarion                          Environmental Geoscience

       Brian Snively                       Latrobe                        Accounting

       Lauren Vietmeier                Murrysville                    Exercise and Rehabilitative Sciences

 

       The Madeline Farnen Scholarship for Education Majors ($1,000) went to:

       Catherine Brown                 Butler                           Music Education                                    

       Abigail Stonebraker             Avon Lake, Ohio           Special Education

 

       The Carl and Norma Watson Laughner Scholarship ($1,000) was awarded to:

       Jazmine Loman                   Pittsburgh                    Athletic Training/Pre-Med.

       The Eisaman Alumni Scholarship for Sophomore Students ($700) was awarded to:

       Cory Smith                          Apollo                         Biology

       The Maggie Meise Fellowship for Graduate Students ($500) was presented:

       Janeen Kovacevic   Port Vue                                   Physical Therapy

       The Anna Brua Williams Scholarship for Women Elementary Education Majors ($450) went to:

       Bethany Rupert       Pittsburgh                                 Health and Physical Education

 

            Members of this year's scholarship and awards committee were:  Patrick Mooney, '61, chairperson; Bill Byrnes, '61, Lorraine Troiano-Barron, '57, Bruno Raso, '61, and Gene Ney, '85.
