World Language Day Set for Tuesday:

Bonjour….Buenos Dias…Guten Tag

Just a quick reminder that more than 1,500 students (the number has increased) from some 35 regional high schools will be on the Slippery Rock University campus Tuesday [Feb. 11] showing off their language skills as part of SRU’s department of modern languages and cultures “World Language Competition.” The event will offer feature photo opportunities – and a chance to spotlight the importance of undertaking a second language in high school.

Students from Butler, Allegheny, Lawrence and Mercer counties will compete for individual and school prizes in all levels of Spanish, French, German and Latin. The event runs 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (primarily) in Spotts World Culture Building. Planned are a 10:15 a.m. session detailing flamenco music and dance in Room 216 and a 12:30 p.m. session on children’s literature in Spanish in Room 116. There also will be 30-minute sessions in Swedish, Korean, Japanese and other world languages exposing the competitors to other cultures and a session for high school language teachers.

Those planning to staff all or part of the day are asked to call 724-738-2199.
