Rock graduate receives Top 25 Women in Business award

Jacquelyn Muller, a 1983 and 2001 Slippery Rock University graduate, has been named one of the 2009 Top 25 Women in Business by the Pittsburgh Business Times, Carlow University and National City Bank/PNC.

Muller, a former assistant to the president at Slippery Rock University, is vice president of public relations and corporate communication at Education Management Corp., one of the largest providers of private, post-secondary education in North America. The corporation employs close to 20,000 people.

"I am most proud of the stories of faculty and student success that our team is able to generate regularly in a variety of national media outlets across more than 88 schools nationwide," Muller said.  "It's an honor to be recognized alongside such a prestigious group of Pittsburgh leaders."

Muller heads strategic communication and media initiatives for the billion-dollar corporation. She serves as corporate spokesperson and strategic counsel to senior management on communication, media and public relations matters. She is a frequent lecturer and consultant on effective public relations/communication strategies for business.

Muller, who received her master's degree in English professional writing from SRU, served the University from 1994-2003. She serves on the SRU Communication Advisory Council.

The Business Times created the award this year to honor the business and career accomplishments of women. The newspaper accepted nominations from throughout western Pennsylvania, while an independent panel of judges selected the winners. Winners were honored last week during a banquet at the Pittsburgh Hilton. National City/PNC and Carlow are the presenting sponsors.

Slippery Rock University is Pennsylvania's premier public residential university. Slippery Rock University provides students with a comprehensive learning experience that intentionally combines academic instruction with enhanced educational and learning opportunities that make a positive difference in their lives.
