'Vagina Monologues' slated for three performances to support
local women's groups
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University's Women's Studies
Program will present three performances of Eve Ensler's
award-winning play "The Vagina Monologues" to benefit the Lawrence
County Women's Shelter and the Butler County VOICe program.
Performances, directed by Susan Kelley, an English major from
Pittsburgh, are planned for 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday in the
Advanced Technology and Science Hall Auditorium, and 7 p.m.
Saturday at the Regional Learning Alliance, Cranberry.
Tickets for the campus performance are $3 for students, $5 general
public; and $7 for students, $10 general public for the Cranberry
reception and performance.
The
play, which has been a sell-out in previous SRU presentations,
earned the Obie Award and was called "funny" and "poignant" by The
New York Times. The Daily News called it "intelligent" and
"courageous."
The
work deals with the mystery, humor, pain, power, wisdom, outrage
and excitement buried in women's experiences.
