SRU Salutes 60 Presidential Scholars for Academic Achievement

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Slippery Rock University honored its top 20 sophomores, juniors and seniors as Presidential Scholar at Sunday's [April 27] Academic Honors Convocation celebrating academic achievement, including _____� students from the local area.

SRU Doctor of Physical Therapy Student Receives National Scholarship

�SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Abigail Ellsworth, a doctor of physical therapy student at Slippery Rock University, has been selected to receive the national Gary L. Soderberg Doctor of Physical Therapy Scholarship. The Soderberg Scholarship recognizes a student who shows leadership on campus.

SRU's North Hills Center to Host Open House on Social Work Program

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University's North Hills Center on Route 910 in Wexford will hold its last open house of the academic year from 4 to 6 p.m. May 13. Faculty will be on hand to discuss educational programs, including a new offering in social work. �

SRU Philosophy Chair Wins 'Zuzak Award' for Excellence

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University philosophy department Chair Dr. Richard Findler, whose scholarship attracted the attention of Harvard University, has received SRU's Charles A. Zuzak Award for 2003. The award honors the top professor in the College of Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts.

American College of Sports Medicine Endorses SRU's Exercise Science Program

�SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - After a "careful and critical review" of the Exercise Science Program at Slippery Rock University, the American College of Sports Medicine has endorsed the program as part of its University Connection Endorsement Program. In a May 5 letter sent to SRU the ACSM stated that� "This curriculum covers the knowledge, skills, and abilities expected of an ACSM health/fitness instructor."���

Ticketholders will be admitted to the field house. Other guests are invited to report to the Robert N. Winner of SRU 'Chem Games' Competition Named

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Roberta DiLeo, a senior at Mohawk High School, New Castle, has been named the winner of Slippery Rock University's "Chem Games" competition, including a $2,000 scholarship to SRU. �

SRU Student Newspaper Takes 30 National Awards

�SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University's weekly student newspaper The Rocket has captured more than 30 national competition journalism awards, including first-place honors from the Society of Professional Journalists and the American Scholastic Press Association. The Rocket was the only student newspaper in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education recognized by the Pennsylvania News Press Association.

'Lights, Camera, Action' is Theme for Weeklong SRU Theater Camp

A quick reminder that Rajasthan Vidyapeeth University Chancellor Bhawani Shanker Garg and Slippery Rock University Interim President Robert Smith will sign a new faculty/student exchange agreement at 5 p.m. Friday [May 23] providing an opportunity for photos/videotape. Both administrators will offer comments on the expanded opportunities that will be offered students and faculty at both universities as part of the agreement.

SANDY LAKE, Pa. - Three artists will display and sell their paintings, photography and pottery during the first "Nature Art Show" May 30-June 1 at McKeever Environmental Learning Center. A classical guitarist, Julie Harris, will perform May 30. �SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - "Hazing in Athletics: Legal Implications for Coaches and Administrators" is the title of a one-day workshop June 20 at Slippery Rock University's North Hills Center, an off-campus classroom facility on Route 910 in Wexford, Allegheny County.

Musicians' Concert Band Plans Four Summer Programs

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Patriotic marches and Dixieland selections under the theme "All the World's a Stage" will open the summer's four-performance Musicians' Concert Band schedule at Butler Intermediate School.
