$410,995 Grant to Fund Pedestrian Walkways at SRU

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - In Slippery Rock University's ongoing efforts to upgrade safety for students and visitors, the university has received a $610,995 federal grant to construct lighted pedestrian paths in the southeastern corner of campus and along Harmony Road.

Regionwide Camp for Visually Impaired Children Set for June 14-17 at SRU

Twenty-five Slippery Rock University students will run VIP Sports Camp June 14-17 giving children with visual impairment from western Pennsylvania and surrounding areas the chance to try their hand at track and field, horseback riding, swimming, taekwondo, rock climbing and tandem biking.

EDITOR'S ADVISORY: Trustees Meet Friday

The regularly scheduled quarterly meeting of the Slippery Rock University Council of Trustees will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday [June 9] in the third-floor Conference Room of Old Main. As usual, a news release detailing action at the meeting will be dispatched shortly after the conclusion of the session.

Alumni Weekend at SRU Graduates Set for June 15-17; 97-Year-Old to Attend

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -� Slippery Rock University alumni - including 97-year-old Helen Miller of Sewickley, a Class of 1931 graduate - will return to campus June 15-17 for the annual SRU Alumni Association-sponsored "Alumni Weekend."

SRU Trustees Vote Approval for Student-initiated $43.7 Million Student Union

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - A student-led initiative calling for the construction of a new $43.7 million, 122,500-square-foot Student Union met with the approval of the Slippery Rock University Council of Trustees today which authorized a resolution permitting implementation of a loan agreement to finance the project.

SRU Performing Arts Series Bringing Nationally Known Artists to Community

All Army Jazz Ambassador Tickets Distributed; Last-minute Seats Expected

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The supply of tickets to the June 27 performance by the U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors in Miller Auditorium on the Slippery Rock University campus has been exhausted; however, it is anticipated a limited number of last-minute seats will become available just before the 7 p.m. curtain.

SRU Jazz Ensemble Readies for Summer Tour of Switzerland, The Netherlands, Germany, Paris

SLIPPERY ROCK. -� There will be plenty of "fireworks" July 4 when the Slippery Rock University Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Stephen Hawk, associate professor of music, leaves Pittsburgh for the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival in Montreux, Switzerland, and the North Sea Jazz Festival in The Netherlands, as part of a 12-day summer tour.

SRU Jazz Ensemble Prepares 'Bon Voyage Concert' for Monday; Readies European Tour

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The 19-piece Slippery Rock University Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Stephen Hawk, associate professor of music, will play selections from its upcoming European Tour, including performances at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival in Montreux, Switzerland, and the North Sea Jazz Festival in The Netherlands, at a free 4 p.m. Monday [June 26] concert in Miller Auditorium on the SRU campus.

SRU Athletic Training Major Granted Reaccreditation

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University's athletic training major has been re-accredited for five years by the Florida-based Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, the nation's largest accreditor of health sciences programs.

SRU Math Professor Honored at Internatoinal Conference

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Dr. Robert Vallin, professor of mathematics at Slippery Rock University, received the Andy Award at the 30th Summer Symposium in Real Analysis. Real analysis, a branch of advanced calculus, is Vallin's research specialty. He has written 15 papers on the subject.
