SRU Aquatics Professor One of Six in Nation Honored

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - For his contribution to aquatic safety on a national level, Slippery Rock University physical education faculty Robert Ogoreuc has received the 2006 National Honor Award from the Aquatic Council of the American Association for Physical Activity and Recreation. Five other people nationwide received the award.

Summer/Fall Registration Open for Community at SRU's Child Care Center

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -� The Slippery Rock University Student Government Association Preschool and Child Care Center is accepting summer and fall student registration for full- and part-time youngsters from across the community with special programs planned for those ages 3 to 5 and those ages 6 to 12, including such themes a computers, growing a garden and creepy, crawly bugs.

SRU Piano Students to Offer Sunday Piano Extravanga

�SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Piano duets students in Dr. Nanette Kaplan Solomon's classes at Slippery Rock University will offer a "Piano Extravaganza" at 4 p.m. Sunday [May 7] in Swope Recital Hall, featuring works by a wide range of composers including Mozart, Brahmas, Dello Joio and Rachmaninoff.

SRU Jazz Festival to Include High School Jazz Musicians, Saxist Gary Smulyan

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -� The Fifth Annual Slippery Rock University Jazz Festival is being hosted on Saturday [May. 6] in Swope Music Hall, with the final concert for the event featuring guest artist, award-winning, saxophonist�Gary Smulyan in Miller Auditorium at 7 p.m. Saturday.

SRU Physical Education Faculty Member Named to PE4Life Award

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - For promoting physical education on a national level and creating a new outreach program at Slippery Rock University, physical education faculty member Randy Nichols has received the Excellence in Advocacy-Education award from PE4Life.

SRU to Confer 1,050 Degrees May 13; Mary Del Brady to be Commencement Speaker

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Mary Del Brady, a 1972 Slippery Rock University graduate and entrepreneur whose 30 years of professional experience include the founding and ownership of several companies in the services and biotechnology industries and recently honored by Pittsburgh's technology community, will be the speaker when the university awards nearly 1,050 diplomas, including 42 doctor of physical therapy degrees and 110 masters degrees at commencement ceremonies set for May 13.

Aebersold Student Center Plans Friday Open House

Opera Recital in Butler a Fund-Raiser for SRU Junior

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - In an effort to make his way to the international Opera Theatre and Music Festival in Lucca, Italy, this summer, award-winning Slippery Rock University vocal major Michael Desnoyers will sing classical and jazz selections when he offers a fund-raising recital at 3 p.m. May 20 at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Butler.

EDITOR'S ADVISORY: Commencement Moved Indoors

Due to expected inclement weather for Saturday [May 13], Slippery Rock University will hold its spring commencement exercises indoors. The 11 a.m. Saturday ceremony will see more than 1,050 diplomas, including 42 doctor of physical therapy degrees, presented in Morrow Field House.

Grove City Resident Turns Horse Farm into SRU Scholarship Funds

Eight SRU Faculty Receive International Travel Grants to Futher Research

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -� Eight Slippery Rock University faculty have been awarded President's International Professional Development Grants that will allow them to present papers and undertake research at academic conferences around the world as part of their academic work. The grants will also allow two music department faculty, joined by the SRU Jazz Ensemble, to perform at prestigious jazz festivals in Switzerland, France and Holland this summer.

Slippery Rock Farmer's Market Begins May 20

SLIPPERY ROCK - The success of last summer's Slippery Rock Farmer's Market, organized by Slippery Rock University students, has prompted organizers to establish the market again beginning May 20. It will run every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon, through Oct. 28.



Musicians' Concert Band Plans 4 Summer Concerts at SRU; Plus Special Jazz Orchestra Event

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -� The Musicians' Concert Band, under its new conductor Jeff Kroner will again offer a four-concert summer series plus a special concert by the Musicians' Concert Band Jazz Orchestra as summer entertainment on the Slippery Rock University campus.

SRU's Macoskey Center Gets 'Outstanding Organization' Award

�SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University's Robert A. Macoskey Center for Sustainable Systems Education and Research has received the "Conservation Award for Outstanding Organization" from the Bartramian Audubon Society, a non-profit organization promoting environmental education and conservation in western Pennsylvania.
