USA Today photo captures SRU gradute with Tiger Woods

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Bob Murray, director of the Gatorade Sports Science Institute and a 1971 and 1974 Slippery Rock University graduate, is part of team working on a line of Gatorade that will be named for Tiger Woods. Murray was recently pictured with Woods in USA Today along with a story announcing changes in the sports drink company's product line.

SRU winter commencement Dec. 15, 500 students earn degrees

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Diplomas will be presented to nearly 500 Slippery Rock University undergraduate, master's degree and doctor of physical therapy candidates Dec. 15 when Slippery Rock University celebrates its 118th commencement. Carol Matteson, president of Mount Ida College and an SRU graduate, will deliver the commencement address. The ceremony is at 1:30 p.m. in Morrow Field House.

Similarities uncanny, as SRU students ready for graduation

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Two Slippery Rock University students have a lot in common. They met at Riverside High School near Ellwood City; they both applied to SRU; they both enrolled at SRU; they both majored in park and resource management; they both worked at a summer adventure Bible camp in Colorado; they both marched down the aisle Nov. 24 to become husband and wife; and they will both march down the aisle Dec. 15 to become SRU graduates. Oh, they are both graduating with high honors, and they both have jobs waiting at the same church.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Helene Schlegel, a 2006 Slippery Rock University graduate, is the new municipal manager for Howell Township, N.J., a shoreline community of 52,000 residents�� one hour from New York City.

SRU offers 'Moving Concepts' class to pre-schoolers

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - A "Moving Concepts" inclusive program for preschool-age children is being offered to the Slippery Rock University community from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Thursdays beginning Jan. 31 as part of Marybeth Miller's "Movement Education" class at SRU.

Slippery Rock University political science major wins constable seat

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Tim Busi, a Slippery Rock University junior, may want to touch base with Pittsburgh's 27-year-old mayor Luke Ravenstahl. Busi, 21, made his political debut by getting himself elected constable of Slippery Rock Township.

SRU graduate heads Wildlands Conservancy

Monday as chief program officer for the Wildlands Conservancy, which covers more than 45,000 acres in and around Emmaus, Pa.

SRU graduate helps lead prestigious drum and bugle corps

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Mark Riel, a 1998 music graduate of Slippery Rock University, has been named assistant director for logistical operations for the Spirit Drum and Bugle Corps of Jacksonville State (Ala.) University. His responsibilities include tour management and communication during the 2008 season.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University Student Government Association received a $5,000 grant today from Pittsburgh 250 Community Connections to expand two greening programs on campus and into the Slippery Rock community.

SRU president earns Butler Health System board appointment

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Robert Smith, president of Slippery Rock University, has been appointed to a three-year term on the Butler Health System board of trustees. The system includes Butler Hospital, its foundation and two medical practice groups.
