3rd annual Bridal Showcase at SRU helps couples bridle stress, plan dream wedding

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University is vowing to make the "big day" connections for betrothed couples less stressful by offering a Wedding Showcase from 5-8 p.m. March 26 in the University Union.

The free event will match couples with local photographers, disk jockeys, bakers, florists, bridal gown and tuxedo vendors while promoting SRU as a wedding site.

"The idea is to make the planning process easier," said Deborah Schell, SRU coordinator of University Union facilities and event services.

More than 20 venders will participate and provide information about their wedding services. The program includes a raffle for one overnight stay at the Applebutter Inn and dinner for two at the North Country Brewery, both in Slippery Rock.

"We have an average of 300 people who attend this event," Schell said.

The showcase will be in the University Union Multi-Purpose Room, which the Union rents for receptions. SRU will also promote other campus locations available for weddings such as the North Hall Courtyard and the Russell Wright Alumni House and Conference Center.

As a result of last year's showcase, several couples have already reserved the Multi-Purpose Room for this summer, said Schell. The University Union and AVI Foodservice Inc., SRU's contract food vendor, are the sponsors.

For more information, call Schell at 724.738.2491.
