Hansen earns top regional track, field honor
NEW ORLEANS - Jen Hansen, Slippery Rock University senior pole vault standout from Charleston, W. Va., has been selected as the Atlantic Region Female Field Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Hansen was joins Shippensburg's Neely Spence in representing the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference as regional award winners. Spence was named co-Track Athlete of the Year.
Hansen claimed her fourth PSAC indoor championship in the pole vault recently and posted the fourth-best clearance in the nation this season at 3.90-meters. That mark placed her atop the PSAC and regional rankings by more than a foot.
Hansen is a five-time All-America performer between the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons
Hansen was joined by Rock teammates Kim Stitt of Hermitage, Phil Rector of Allentown and Brady Wert of Walworth, N.J., at the national meet last weekend.
