University Public Relations wins five CUPPIE awards

Slippery Rock University's Office of Public Relations has won five College and University Public Relations Association of Pennsylvania Awards for creative excellence in marketing. No other institution in the state received as many CUPPIE awards from CUPRAP, an organization that supports public relations in higher education.

"I'm extremely proud of our entire staff. They are creative, forward thinking and work tirelessly to develop materials in support of the University's mission," said Rita Abent, executive director for University Public Relations. "It's especially gratifying to compete against your professional peers and have your work validated in such a positive way."

SRU received a Silver Award in the print posters category for an Auschwitz poster highlighting SRU's "Holocaust Remembrance" program; a Bronze Award for graduate recruitment print advertising; a Bronze Award in the outdoor advertising category for its "Do You Have What It Takes?" billboard; a Bronze Award for a feature article in The ROCK magazine on women pioneers in athletics and a Bronze Award for a news article in the magazine about a sustainable farm that is owned and operated by SRU graduates.
Aaron Moore, artist illustrator, created the Auschwitz poster. Sandy Busch, publications manager, designed the other pieces for which Abent wrote the copy. Heidi Tyline King, a freelance writer, wrote the alumni magazine articles.
CUPRAP received more than 400 entries from colleges and universities in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware and Arkansas. Judges for the event included media professionals, designers, writers, university professors and corporate communication executives.

Founded in 1980, CUPRAP has nearly 400 members from 115 institutions. Its members work in public relations, media relations, marketing, publications, sports information and graphic design.
