TWO FROM SRU INCLUDED IN ‘PITTSBURGH MASTERS V’ SHOW AT PITTSBURGH CENTER

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University Art Professor Glen Brunken, and Professor Emeritus of Art Akiko Kotani are among 10 Pittsburgh area artists selected to show their works as part of the “Pittsburgh Masters V” show at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts in Shadyside.

Brunken, a member of the SRU art faculty since 1969, will exhibit eight paintings, and Kotani, who retired in 2000 will display her fiber arts at the show that opens Friday [April 1] with a 5:30 to 8 p.m. reception. The show continues through Aug. 21.

Other included in the show are Diane Samuels, a former SRU art instructor, Paul Binai, Charlee Brodsky, Douglas Cooper, Ron Desmett, Ron McNeish, Kathleen Mulcahy and Harry Schwalb.

Artists for the exhibit were nominated from the community and chosen by a select committee of Pittsburgh curators, gallery directors and artists. Elected artists were video interviewed in their studios about the education and approaches to art and the videos, along with files containing biographical and professional histories of the artists, will be permanently stored in the Heinz Historical Center, Pittsburgh.

A number of other programs, including talks with the artists related to the show are scheduled throughout its run.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays, and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays.
