TWO FROM SRU INCLUDED IN
‘PITTSBURGH MASTERS V’ SHOW AT PITTSBURGH
CENTER
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.
– Slippery Rock University Art Professor Glen Brunken, and
Professor Emeritus of Art Akiko Kotani are among 10 Pittsburgh area
artists selected to show their works as part of the
“Pittsburgh Masters V” show at the Pittsburgh Center
for the Arts in Shadyside.
Brunken, a
member of the SRU art faculty since 1969, will exhibit eight
paintings, and Kotani, who retired in 2000 will display her fiber
arts at the show that opens Friday [April 1] with a 5:30 to 8 p.m.
reception. The show continues through Aug. 21.
Other included in
the show are Diane Samuels, a former SRU art instructor, Paul
Binai, Charlee Brodsky, Douglas Cooper, Ron Desmett, Ron McNeish,
Kathleen Mulcahy and Harry Schwalb.
Artists for the
exhibit were nominated from the community and chosen by a select
committee of Pittsburgh curators, gallery directors and artists.
Elected artists were video interviewed in their studios about the
education and approaches to art and the videos, along with files
containing biographical and professional histories of the artists,
will be permanently stored in the Heinz Historical Center,
Pittsburgh.
A number of other
programs, including talks with the artists related to the show are
scheduled throughout its run.
Gallery hours are
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays, and noon to 5 p.m.
Sundays.
