SRU’S BRIDGE PROJECT GROUP TO OBSERVE SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS MONTH

                SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – April is being observednationally as Sexual Assault Awareness Month and the Bridge Project at SRU has organized a series of events to help the campus community Speak Out Against Sexual Violence. The group’s goal is to encourage the entire university community to learn about sexual violence, how to help prevent it and how to help survivors heal.

            Those in the community are asked to join the program by:

  • scheduling a Bridge Project program for their staff or organization

  • requesting and wearing teal awareness ribbon pins;

  • requesting and wearing Thursdays in Black pins;

  • attending guest speaker Erin Weed’s presentations “High Five for the Good Guys: 7 Things Men Can do to End Sexual Violence” for men at 7 p.m. April 15 in Strain Behavioral Science Building Auditorium or “Girls Fight Back” at 9 p.m. April 15 for women in the Robert N. Aebersold Student Recreation Center;

  • attending “A Day to End Sexual Violence Open House” from noon to 4 p.m. April 20 in the SRU Women’s Center;

  • attending the “Lethal Doses” presentation on date-rape drugs at 3 p.m. April 28 in the University Union;

  • visiting information tables from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in Weisenfluh or Boozel dining halls;

  • volunteering time – all volunteers will receive a free T-Shirt.

           The project explains that sexual violence is a serious health problem profoundly affecting the physical, emotional, mental and social well-being of victims. With leadership and commitment, the group is working with others to create short and long-term solutions to the endemic problem of sexual violence, including unhealthy and unsafe relationships.
