WEEKEND
CONCERTS AT SRU FEATURE VOICE MAJORS, VIOLIN AND WIND
ENSEMBLE
SLIPPERY
ROCK, Pa. – Voice majors at Slippery Rock University and
guest pianists Jennifer Plumley and Kelly Hiser will perform
“Opera Scenes and Arias” at 8 p.m. Saturday [April 3]
followed by graduating senior Sarah J. Lipner’s “My
Final Hoorah: A Senior Violin Recital” at 4 p.m. Sunday and
an 8 p.m. Sunday performance by the SRU Wind
Ensemble.
All
concerts are in Swope Recital Hall.
Dr.
Colleen Gray Neubert, assistant professor of music, will direct the
free opera performance that will include works by Handel, Mozart,
Donizetti and Puccini. Lipner, from Pittsburgh, will present works
byTelemann, Mozart, Bach, Metallica, the Beatles and
others at her free recital.
The
SRU Wind Ensemble, conducted by Stephen Hawk, associate professor
of music, will conclude the weekend music events. Tickets are $3 at
the door. Earlier in the day Hawk will be recognized with
SRU’s President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching as
part of the university’s 2 p.m. Academic Honors
Convocation.
The
ensemble will offer “Hanover Festival” by Philip
Sparke, “Vesuvius,” by Frank Ticheli,
“Incantation and Dance,” by John Barnes Chance,
“Rocky Point Holiday,” by Ron Nelson, “Sketches
on a Tudor Psalm,” by Fisher Tull, and “Summon The
Heroes,” by John Williams.
