SRU's 'Success Starts Here' series features New Castle firm

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Anthony Cialella, a 1992 Slippery Rock University finance graduate, vice president and regional manager for Advanced Waste Services Inc., and former president of Castle Environmental Inc., in New Castle, will be the School of Business' "Success Starts Here" speaker at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The lecture, part of an ongoing series designed to showcase business development and entrepreneur opportunities in western Pennsylvania, will be in the Advanced Technology and Science Hall. Cialella's company specializes in the handling of industrial residual waste.

After earning his master of business administration degree in finance from Youngstown State Univerity, Cialella managed a mid-size manufacturing and service-related company with sales in excess of $50 million. He has extensive sales and managerial experience in addition to a strong financial background.

Both Advanced Waste Services and Castle Environmental are actively involved in the treatment and disposal of fracture and brine water generated from the Marcellus Shale Play in Pennsylvania.

Cialella has extensive experience with the Federal Environmental Protection Agency and successfully negotiated the removal of barium from the Clean Water Act as it addresses Centralized Waste Treatment facilities on a national basis.

Prior to his purchase of Castle Environmental, he worked in the banking industry where he focused on merger and acquisition transactions, restructuring of underperforming bank assets and participation loans.

The expertise he developed led to his first venture outside banking when he accepted a position with a small railcar manufacturing operation. Under his guidance the company expanded into railcar leasing and shortline railroad operations.

During his tenure the company experienced triple digit growth as he created and managed the company's first sale/leaseback program and the financial engineering of the company's first acquisition.

Cialella also spent time in public service as the business administrator for a mid-size western Pennsylvania city. He was responsible for all financial aspects of the city in addition to the overall management and supervision of all departments. He was also responsible for labor contract negotiations with four unions representing more than 200 city workers.

While obtaining his MBA, he studied abroad and worked in St. Petersburg, Russia, and Madrid. Spain.
