SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – A quilting showcase, with 60 quilts on display and activities for children,is one of the special events of “Kaleidoscope,” SRU’s arts festival scheduled for April 22 to May 3.

Stitched by local residents, the quilts will be displayed from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 26, at the Slippey Rock Township Building, located at the intersection of Branchton and Harmony roads. One quilt, made of antique feed sacks, will be raffled at the end of the day.

Children will be able to examine diagrams of materials and make their own quilt patches. There will also be book quilts on hand explaining the quilting process and history of antique quilts on display. Several of the quilts were made at Fabric Selling Center in Slippery Rock, while others originated from the New Wilmington Quilt Guild.

There is no charge. Call 724-738-4863 for more information.

Throughout its 12-day run, Kaleidoscope visitors will hear speakers, take in a flute or wind ensemble concert, comedy acts, Civil War re-enactments, or enjoy children’s activities. Several speakers are nationally known, including Sherman Alexie, a Native-American writer, dramatist and poet; Kevin Burke, an Irish-fiddler; and Elizabeth Hodes, a New York actress/singer/dancer.
