SRU SYMPHONIC WIND ENSEMBLE, JAZZ ENSEMBLES I,
II, TO OFFER CONCERTS
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.
– The Slippery Rock University Symphonic Wind Ensemble
will present its spring concert at 8 p.m. Tuesday [April 19] in the
University Union, and the SRU Jazz Ensembles I and II, will present
its spring concert at 8 p.m. April 26 in Miller
Auditorium.
The wind ensemble
is conducted by Dr. Stephen Hawk, associate professor of music,
with the jazz ensembles directed by Hawk and Dr. David Glover,
assistant professor of music.
The wind ensemble
will offer respected wind composers Frank Ticheli, Philip Sparke,
Eric Whitacre and Pittsburgh native Samuel Hazo. The program
will open with a new composition titled "Sound The Bells," by the
composer John Williams. Of special note is the piece
"Cloudburst," by Eric Whitacre, featuring the depictions of a
tremendous spring storm.
SRU jazz
students will present tunes by jazz legend Thelonius Monk, Les
Hooper and Steve Speigl. Jazz Ensemble I, will feature seniors
Clayton DeWalt of Grove City, Pat Schirf of Altoona, Courtney Geary
of Bellefont, and Todd Obidowski of Butler.
