Three Rivers Jazz Orchestra returns for Kaleidoscope gig


SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -The Three Rivers Jazz Orchestra, co-founded and directed by Slippery Rock University's Stephen Hawk, associate professor of music, with David Glover, assistant professor of music on drums, will perform Wednesday as part of SRU's Kaleidoscope arts festival continuing through April 29.

           Their University Union concert is at 7:30 p.m.

           Hawk and Mike Tomano, director of jazz studies at Duquesne University and a leading jazz composer in the U.S., formed the group in 2004. The orchestra premiered at SRU's 2004 festival.

           The orchestra is composed of hand-selected musicians from the western Pennsylvania region.

           The TRJO specializes in playing challenging, concert, jazz literature composed by its own members and some of today's leading jazz composers as well as arrangements of American popular songs and jazz standards. The group has released a CD on the Sea Breeze Records label.

           Tickets are $5 for the general public; $3 for students.
