items of interest for your

EVENT #1 --
Friday
The SRU
Relay for Life, a 24-hour event designed to increase cancer
awareness, kicks off at 4 p.m. Friday [April 23] on the SRU campus.
The opening event is a “Cancer Survivor’s Walk.”
Activities, at the Old Thompson Field, located behind Morrow Field
House, continues through 4 p.m. Saturday including bands and other
entertainment. The relay is chaired by Emelie J. McFarland, of
Central Receiving, herself a cancer survivor. The event offers a
wealth of photo opportunities as students and community members
walk the track and participate in the national fund
raiser.
EVENT #2 – Saturday
SRU’s I Care House in New
Castle, a community center for all ages, will hold a dedication and
ribbon cutting at
1:30 p.m. Saturday {April 24], including dedication of Ebony Hall,
the home’s hallway, which is being named in honor of the late
Ebony Scott, one of the institute’s first AmeriCorps members
who was instrumental in promoting the idea of a community center in
New Castle. Brenda Scott, Ebony Scott’s mother, will be on
hand to speak. A carnival for children and area families will
follow at 2:30 p.m. at the house and garden followed by a 5 p.m.
reception for SRU students who kept the I Care House dream alive
and brought it to fruition. The day’s events will also offer
feature photo opportunities.
