SRU Army ROTC commissions seven cadets as 2nd lieutenants

 

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University's Army ROTC program will commission seven cadets as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army at 4 p.m. May 2 in the Advanced Technology and Science Hall Auditorium.

    Nine cadets will participate in 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. May 2 commencement ceremonies in Morrow Field House. Two of the cadets will officially graduate at the end of summer semester and will be commissioned at that time.
    Receiving commissions May 2 are:

      • Emma Christensen, a French major with concentrations in theatre and leadership from Red Bank, N.J. Her assignment will be with active duty military intelligence. She reports July 29 to Ft. Huachuca, Ariz. Her first duty station will be in Germany with the 1st Armored Division.
      • Jacob Gatewood, an economics major with a concentration in leadership from Mercer. He will be commissioned to active duty field artillery, reporting July 6 to Ft. Sill, Okla. His first duty station is Ft. Campbell, Ky., with the 101st Airborne Division.
      • Rebecca Wawrykow, a nursing major with a certificate in case management from Cranberry Township. She will be assigned to the active duty nurse corps, reporting July 14 to Ft. Sam Houston, Texas. Her first duty station will be Ft. Bragg, N.C.
      • Collier Wright, a history major from Indianapolis, Ind. He will join the infantry, reporting July 6 to Ft. Benning, Ga. His first duty station is Ft. Stewart, Ga.
      • Bradlee Spudic, a history major from Cranberry Township, will join the transportation corps. He reports Oct. 29 to Ft. Eustice Va. His first duty station is Ft. Carson, Colo., with the 4th Infantry Division.
      • Aaron Dick, an information technology major from Daegu, South Korea. He will be commissioned to the Pennsylvania National Guard Signal Corps, reporting to the Officer Basic Course at Ft. Gordon, Ga., April 4. His first duty station is not yet set.
      • Lawrence Vogel, a safety and environmental management major from Slippery Rock. He will be commissioned to the Pennsylvania National Guard Armor, reporting to OBC at Ft. Knox, Ky., in August 2010. His first duty station will be at Tamaqua with Company B 2/103D Armor.
    • Cadets participating who will be commissioned later this year are:

      • Michael Silvestri, a resort and recreational management major from Ellwood City. He will be commissioned to the Pennsylvania National Guard Signal Corps, reporting to OBC at Ft. Gordon, Ga., in August 2010. His first duty station is the 656 Signal Company.
      • Zachary Horne, a safety major from Philadelphia. He will be commissioned to the active duty ordnance corps, reporting in February to Ft. Lee, Va. His first duty station will be Ft. Polk, La., with the 1st Combat Support Brigade.
