 SRU to Again Offer Summer Camps for Children: Classes in Theater, Academic Areas

SRU TO AGAIN OFFER SUMMER CAMPS FOR CHILDREN;

CLASSES IN THEATER, ACADEMIC FUN AREAS INCLUDED

              SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Aspiring actors, directors, playwrights and youngsters looking for a great summer experience involving the theater, and those looking for challenging academic fun are urged to consider two, weeklong summer camp programs planned for those in grades three through seven at by Slippery Rock University.

          “Over the years, we have had great success in offering summer programs to children,” says Richard Comings, director of SRU’s Office of Continuing Education. “Our proven courses in theater and our ‘Enrichment Day Camp’ have been very popular with elementary through middle school students. The programs are designed to incorporate both education and fun while giving children the opportunity to be creative and met new friends.”

          “The Play’s The Thing,” a weeklong introduction to theater, will be offered June 26-30. As part of the “Lights, Camera, Action” program students learn about acting, writing, costume and make-up, stage movement and dance, set and lighting design, and they will present a public performance at week’s end. The camp also includes a behind-the-scenes Pittsburgh theater visit.

          Those signing up for “Enrichment Day Camps Courses” will spend weekdays July 12-16 on campus involved in classes ranging from building rockets, repairing computers, learning about diplomacy and dollmaking, having fun with physics, chemistry and organic gardening to learning about drawing, raising honey bees, tin punching, papermaking and Japanese origami. There will also be sessions Italian and Japanese language as well as sessions in art and music. Students select four course from the 19-course list.

          Tuition for either program is $200, with a $10 discount offered those registering early. A second child in the same family pays $190 per child with an early registration discount also offered.
