National magazine profiles May theatre graduate

Kelly McBane, a May Slippery Rock University theatre graduate and award-winning makeup artist, is profiled in the most recent edition of Makeup Magazine. McBane is a fellow at the Contemporary American Theatre Company of Columbus, Ohio.
Makeup Magazine included photographs of actresses made up by McBane and noted that some of McBane's best makeup work was done for an SRU production of "Macbeth."
"The director handed me a cyber-Goth-techno challenge and mentioned getting Japanese influence somewhere in there," McBane told Makeup Magazine. "I adapted wigs and designed the makeup to look like traditional Kabuki makeup, but not verbatim traditional. For Hacate, we decided she would be a cyborg, so I bald capped her every night and painted her blue."
During her senior year at SRU, McBane won the regional American College Theater Festival Award for Theatrical Makeup Design. She also won the Alcone Company Make-Up Design Award at the 2009 Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival.
