SRU graduate nabs Wall of Achievement honors
Art Steves, a 1958 Slippery Rock University graduate and a 26-year wresting coach, will be honored Friday by Union City High as part of its second class of Wall of Achievement honorees.
Steves was a 1954 graduate of Union City.
Following matriculation at SRU, he began teaching at Ft. LeBoeuf where he served as a health and physical education teacher. As wrestling coach, he directed 26 District 10 champions, 12 state medalists and three state champions, according to a news story in the Meadville Tribune.
The Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame honored him in 1989, and in 2001, he was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
Eight other Union City graduates will also be honored at the upcoming event.
