NKT Fall Classic Golf Scramble 'Sellout' boosts scholarship fund
Friday's NKT Fall Classic Golf Scramble, co-hosted by the Slippery Rock University Athletic and Alumni Affairs offices, will have a full field of competitors and bring opportunities for a substantial boost in SRU Scholarship Fund, said Bill Richter, athletic development officer.
A total of 96 golfers are scheduled to take part in the scramble competition at Grove City Country Club. Competition will start at noon with a shotgun start.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the SRU Scholarship Fund. Event coordinators anticipate a $20,000 profit.
The Fall Classic merges the former SRU Alumni Association-hosted Fall Classic with the former Athletic-related NKT Golf Outing, which honors SRU's legendary football coach N. Kerr Thompson for whom the SRU football stadium is named.
Title sponsors for this year's Fall Classic Golf Scramble are Crawford Consulting Services and DRS Architects, both are based in Pittsburgh.
The post-event awards dinner is sponsored by Liberty Mutual Insurance, with other support from Cavcon Construction. The longest drive competition is sponsored by PNC Bank and the pre-event lunch is jointly sponsored by Building Controls & Services and Giant Eagle. Eighteen other businesses provided financial support for the tournament.
