SRU men's soccer team clinches playoff berth; ranks 11 in U.S.


The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team, currently ranked 11th in the nation and second in the NCAA Atlantic Region, has clinched its fourth Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference playoff berth in the last five seasons. 

The Rock, with an overall record of 15-3 this season, finished second in the PSAC-Western Division standings and will travel to Mercyhurst Wednesday for a 1 p.m. PSAC semifinal match against Mercyhurst. The winner of that game will host the winner of the Eastern Division semifinal game in the PSAC Championship Nov. 7.

The Rock will close its regular season with a noon Saturday match against Gannon at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium. The game will be the final regular season play of the season. SRU's four seniors will be honored in a pre-game ceremony. The Rock women's team will play its final home game of the season at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Four seniors will also be honored prior to the start of the game. 

The Rock Sports Information Office will run live statistics and a live audio broadcast of both the men's and women's Saturday games. Links may be found on the official athletics Web site: Live stats will also be available for the men's soccer semifinal game at Mercyhurst next Wednesday.
