SRU Campus Recreation offers summer youth programs

 

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Parents throughout the region looking for summer recreation activities for their children are invited to make use of Slippery Rock University's Robert N. Aebersold Student Recreation Center's Campus Recreation summer programs. The ARC will offer swimming, fitness, outdoor adventure skill development and a two-day tennis tournament.

            Space is still available and registration is being accepted for the June 13-July 10 and July 11-Aug. 7 sessions.

            Swim classes for those ages 3 and over and water polo classes for those ages 8 and over are $15 for center members, $30 for non-members. Two-day stroke lessons will be offered in butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle. Check the online schedule for exact times and dates.

            An ARC Kids Morning Camp series, offering development in sports, fitness and outdoor adventure skills are 8 a.m. to noon for those ages 8-12. Sessions run June 12-15; June 21-24; and July 19-22.

            The McFarland Tennis Tournament July 23-25 offer singles and doubles competition. Sessions will be separate for those 12 and under, and 14 and under.

Outdoor adventure sessions include an advanced Sea Kayak Adventure Clinic, June 6; a Youth Caving Trip to Casparis Cave, June 15; a Sea Kayak Day Trip to Moraine State Park, June 19; a Youth Outdoor Adventure/Environmental Education Camp, June 28-July 1; a White Water Kayak Camp, July 5-8, and a Sea Kayak Introduction program July 10 and 11. A number of the adventure programs require an adult to accompany participants under age 18.

           Rock Fit programs are planned for throughout the day for those ages 12 through 17. Sessions are offered on a Monday and Wednesday, or Tuesday and Thursday schedule.

           Registration is due by 7 p.m. Thursday prior to the program's start.
