Rock women's tennis earns PSAC runner-up honor
The Rock women's tennis team earned the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference runner-up honor for the second time in the past three seasons last weekend in Bloomsburg.
Veteran head coach Matt Meredith's team earned a berth in the conference finals with 5-1 and 5-2 wins over Mercyhurst and Bloomsburg in quarterfinal and semifinal matches, respectively, before the 44th-ranked Rock lost a 5-0 decision to eighth-ranked California University of Pennsylvania in the championship match last Saturday.
The Rock now owns a 19-5 record as it awaits the release Wednesday night of the NCAA Division II playoff field. SRU is the No. 3 team in the most recent regional poll, but should move to the No. 2 spot in the wake of its win over Bloomsburg, the No. 2 team in the latest regional ranking.
If SRU does move up to the No. 2 regional spot, it would be in position to serve as one of the hosts for first- and second-round NCAA postseason competition May 6-8.
