SRU ALUMNI ASSOCIATION TO SEE 130 ALUMNI ON CAMPUS FOR WEEKEND EVENTS

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – More than 130 Slippery Rock University graduates begin arriving on campus Friday [June 18] to participate in the annual Alumni Weekend sponsored by the SRU Alumni Association which year is spotlighting the reunion classes of 1954, celebrating its 50th anniversary, and 1979, marking its 25th year.

The weekend kicks off at noon Friday with the Women’s Athletic Golf Outing at Pine Grove Golf Course followed by a 5:30 p.m. BBQ in North Hall for all except those in the class of 1954 who will meet at 6 p.m. for a  celebration at the Grove City County Club. The Musicians’ Concert Band’s 8 p.m. performance in Miller Auditorium is sponsored by the association and will be followed by a reception for returning graduates in Russell Wright Alumni House.

“This weekend is always very special,” says Michael Saraka, director of the Office of Alumni Affairs. “We have the chance to showcase the campus and our academic programs while allowing our alumni the chance to see improvements as well as catch up on each other’s lives. The weekend re-links alumni to our campus and continues to build ties within our university family.”

Friday’s events also include a tour of the downtown to show off redevelopment progress.

Saturday open with a 6:30 a.m. sunrise walk on the lower campus followed by an 8 a.m. continental breakfast in the alumni house. The annual SRU history presentation will be offered at 9:30 a.m. in North Hall along with campus tours through 11 a.m. A rock wall climbing lesson will be offered in the Robert N. Aebersold Student Recreation Center at 10 a.m. followed by the annual reunion luncheon in the University Club of North Hall.

Special Saturday programs for the class of 1979 include 3 p.m. volleyball, softball and children’s games at the Ski Lodge followed by a BBQ.
