CENTERPLANS ‘SPOTLIGHT ON THE
ARTS’
SUMMER
CAMP SESSIONS FOR CHILDREN AGES 3 THROUGH 12
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – A weeklong
“Spotlight on the Arts” summer day-camp will be offered
by the Slippery Rock University Student Government Association
Child Care Center Aug. 1-5 offering programs in art, music, theater
and dance to those ages 3 to 6 and those ages
6-12.
The
program will be offered in SRU’s McKay Education Building,
home to the year-round child care center and other appropriate
campus locations.
Sessions
for those ages 3 to 6 will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon with a
$50 tuition. Those ages 6 to 12 will attend camp from 9 a.m. to 3
p.m. under a $100 tuition.
Led
by Lisa Ringer, director of the National Association for the
Education of Young Children-accredited SRU Child Care Center and
staffed by SRU students, the limited enrollment camp will offer
sessions in a host of art-related areas. Rebecca Morrice, assistant
professor of theater, will also supervise campers in their
theater-related work.
Theater
sessions will include making and working with puppets, masks,
costumes and improvisation. Sessions in art will include drawing,
ceramic pot-making, jewelry-making, paper-making and photography.
Sessions in dance will include ballet and “poetry in
motion,” using poems and movement as entertainment, while
music sessions will include learning about rhythm, singing and
various musical instruments.
