SRU salutes 35 staff for years of dedicated service


Slippery Rock University honored 57 staff members Wednesday at the annual Staff Recognition Luncheon for their dedicated service  

            SRU President Robert Smith extended congratulations and thanks on behalf of the University. He saluted the dedicated work and commitment he said continues to draw students to enrolling at The Rock. "Your fine work in keeping up our buildings and grounds, your interaction with students and their parents, and your dedication to Slippery Rock University are what make our campus the fine institution it is," he said. Smith cited a number of specific program successes during the past year and attributed the University's overall and continued success to the outstanding work put into campus programs by staff members. 

            Smith used the event in the University Union to update staff on issues related to state funding plans and how various plans may affect the University's financial future.

            Plaques, medallions and lapel service pins were present in various years of service categories.

            Receiving honors were: 

            35-Year Awards: Angela Koch, Office of Academic Records and Summer School, Helen Forsythe Kirk, College of Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts, LaDonna Linamen, Office of Facilities and Planning, and Bruce Russell, College of Business, Information and Social Sciences.

            30-Year Awards: Thomas Klingensmith, University Police, and Pearl Shaffer, Athletic Office.

            25-Year Awards: Francis Bires, McKeever Environmental Learning Center, Thomas Bixler and Steven Rodriguez, both heating plant, Roy Burns, Thomas Elder and Jeffrey Figel, all from the Office of Facilities and Planning, Roy Corso, mail room, Timothy Harlan, Accounting Services, Robin Mowry, English department, and Linda Newton, psychology department.

            20-Year Awards: Tracy Allison, Annual Fund, S. Dianne Broad and Laura Hawkins, both from health services, Dennis Buffington, Accounting Services, Gino Cicconi, Office of User Services, Mark Combine, Purchasing Office, Patricia Doyle, Contracts Office, Marcia Kotek and Pamela Miller, both Human Resources Office; Beverly Lumley, ID Card Office, Paula Olivero, Office of Student Development, Carol Rissmiller, Office of Information Technology, Kimberly Saunders, Perkins/DSL Office, and John Snyder, Office of Career Services.

            15-Year Awards: Joyce H. Basham, Human Resources Office, W. Christopher Cole, University Union, Ora Cozad, Bruce Martin, Melvin Nagy, Joseph Phillips and Ronald VanDyke, all from the Office of Facilities and Planning, Jill Fleske, University Advancement, Frank Genareo, McKeever Environmental Learning  Center, and Carole Sallmen, Office of Admissions and the SRU Honors Program.

            10-Year Awards: Jacqueline Berkstresser and Patrica Hladio, both from the Office of Financial Aid, Timothy Croll, Jacqueline Ewell, Anna Hart, Dennis Johnston, William Morris, Linda Rihel, all from the Office of Facilities and Planning, Cheryl Dolan, chemistry department, Grace Hajave, health services, Shawn Lutz, Athletic Office, Henry Magusiak, Jeff Ward and Todd Simmers, all from the Office of Information Technology, Bradley Montag and Douglas Wallace, both from the heating plant, Kelly Slogar, Office of International Services, and James Yeamans, campus recreation.
