Environmental center gets caught 'Green Handed'

The Pennsylvania Center for Environmental Education, housed at Slippery Rock University, has received the Green Handed Award for its Web site from Principals for Change, a non-profit organization that supports greening education.

PCEE's Web site, like a good ecosystem, has grown to include numerous resources for teachers, students and residents. The site provides tips for increasing energy efficiency at home, a nature center directory and activities for children and adults.
"You will find endless resources ranging from their one-of-a kind CritterQuest to their Green Guide to Pennsylvania... a must see for all 'enviro-ed-junkies,'" said Aaron Steinly, Principals for Change founder.

The Web site also includes a green guide to Pennsylvania agriculture, business and industry, childhood education, non-profits and higher education. Children's activities emphasize saving money and preserving natural resources, the twin pillars of sustainability.

PCEE, created by executive order by the governor in 1997, serves as a central clearinghouse for environmental information and resources.

Principals for Change provides grants to teachers for designing and implementing green projects in their schools and communities and works to help schools and students solve energy crisis through education.
The award-winning site is located at:
