Fast-track SRU student wins Outstanding Teen pageant

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Jocelyn Gruber, a Grove City High School senior who will take classes at Slippery Rock University next fall through the Fast Track Program, has won the Miss Pennsylvania Outstanding Teen Pageant. She will compete Aug. 28 in Orlando, Fla., for the title of Miss America's Outstanding Teen.
SRU's fast track program gives talented high school students who have completed their sophomore year and rank in the upper third of their class the opportunity to enroll in college-level courses. Gruber's credits would transfer to SRU if she enrolls. Gruber plans to enroll as a freshman in fall 2011.
Gruber became involved with the Miss America Outstanding Teen organization in September when she won the Miss Greater Johnston Outstanding Teen competition. She earned the title of Miss Pennsylvania's Outstanding Teen in June. She was also honored with an overall talent award for her piano solo during the Miss Pennsylvania program.
Gruber uses "a call to service" as her platform. Gruber said she hopes to motivate young people to use their gifts to benefit America through the U.S. Public Service Academy.
Her high school activities include cheerleading and participation in the gifted program, National Honor Society and Project Peers.
