THE SLIPPERY ROCK TOWN AND GOWN ASSOCIATION REORGANIZES, SCHEDULES AUG. 17 MEETING;

PUBLIC INVITED

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. --- To further the positive relationship between Slippery Rock University and community residents, the Slippery Rock Town and Gown Association has reformed after a hiatus of several years and will host a meeting at 6 p.m. Aug. 17 at North Country Brewing in Slippery Rock.

Residents, SRU students and staff, elected officials and business owners are invited to discuss programs and ways to promote and improve the quality of life in Slippery Rock. The meeting will be held on the back patio, with refreshments available.

 Initially formed in the early 1970s, the organization recently appointed Slippery Rock resident Gene Allison president, SRU’s Deborah Baker, manager of university events, vice president, Slippery Rock resident Shirley Martin treasurer and SRU student Sarah Balasu secretary.

 The reformation comes amid several cooperative ventures between SRU and the town, including a program of classes for mature adults and an upgrade of the business district.  Most recently, SRU hasinvited community volunteers to help move in one of the largest freshman classes in recent history Aug. 25-26. Residents and local merchants are being encouraged to participate to promote community pride.

 If you have questions or would like to get involved but can’t make the Aug. 17 meeting, call Baker during the day at 724-738-4499, or Allison in the evening at 724-794-3148.
