Princeton Review names SRU to 'Best Northeastern Colleges' list
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Princeton Review's survey of students attending Slippery Rock University found them bragging about "small classes," a "great library" and "great athletic facilities" among other factors − all of which helped the University earn a spot in the 2008 edition of The Review's just-published book "Best Northeastern Colleges."
In a letter to SRU President Robert Smith, Robert Franek, vice president of publishing at The Princeton Review, wrote, "Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania is one of 654 institutions we feature on the 'Best College Region by Region' section of Princeton Review.com, and one of 222 receiving our 'Best of the Northeast' designation. We salute each of these schools for their excellent academics and other strong offerings and are pleased to recommend them to college applicants and their parents."
Smith said, "We are always pleased to receive endorsements from students, our alumni and those outside the University who offer serious review of our academic and student-oriented programs. We have been included in a number of previous Princeton Review reports and are again pleased to have been selected for the latest edition."
"It is always exciting to our faculty, students, staff and alumni to have our name included with some of the biggest and best universities in the region. Our academic reputation continues to increase and our students - and our graduates - continue to prosper because of the added value of the rock-solid education they receive at Slippery Rock University," Smith said.
W.C. Vance, SRU director of undergraduate admissions, said, "This recognition validates the excellent experience of Slippery Rock University students. More students than ever are seeking admission to SRU and the quality of the applicant pool seeking admission continues to rise every year. Parents understand that as a 'Best Northeastern College' their children will have an excellent experience at SRU and more than ever are aggressively encouraging their children to attend SRU."
Franek noted, "The schools in this book all have excellent academic programs. We chose them from several hundred northeastern schools we considered based on institutional data we collected about the schools, our survey of students attending them and our visits to schools over the years. We also worked to have a wide representation of colleges in the book by size, selectivity, character and locale."
The northeastern region includes the District of Columbia and 11 states − Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont and Pennsylvania.
More than 62,000 students at the 222 colleges in the current edition were invited to complete an 80-question survey about their university experience.
Slippery Rock University is Pennsylvania's premier public residential university. Slippery Rock University provides students with a comprehensive learning experience that intentionally combines academic instruction with enhanced educational and learning opportunities that make a positive difference in their live.
