Slippery Rock University plans memorial service for David Dixon
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University's history department will host a public memorial service for David Dixon, professor of history, at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 4. Dixon, who taught at SRU for 18 years, died July 16 while bicycling to Maine. He was 53.
The service is in the Multi-Purpose Room of the University Union.
Written remembrances may be sent to John Craig, chair of the SRU history department, or delivered at the service, for inclusion in a presentation to Professor Dixon's family.
Dixon joined the SRU faculty in 1989 and was awarded the University's President's Award for Scholarly and Creative Achievement for his book "Never Come to Peace Again: Pontiac's Uprising and the Fate of the British Empire in North America" in 2007. He authored three other history books.
Dixon left his wife, Amy, and a daughter, Heather.
Arrangements were handled by the Bradley Smith Funeral Home, Slippery Rock.
