SRU's Alumni Relations plan trips to hear Jerome Kern songs, see 'Cinderella'
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University Office of Alumni Relations will sponsor two cultural arts excursions to Pittsburgh, the first, Feb. 15, to see "Marvin and the Music of Jerome Kern" with the Pittsburgh Symphony Pops, and the second, April 25, to see the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre's premiere of "Cinderella."
"We think these outstanding programs, which include roundtrip transportation, allow those in the regional community with interests in the arts the chance to see some of the premier events - and at reasonable prices," said Michael Saraka, director of SRU's alumni relations. "While we hope our alumni will take advantage of these programs, we also want members of the regional community to join in. We have secured excellent seats for both performances."
The Pittsburgh Pops' 2:30 pm. Feb. 15 performance at Heinz Hall will feature SRU students performing with the All-Star College Chorus directed by Robert Page. Kern's work in "Showboat," "Sunny" and "Sweet Adeline" along with his Academy Award-winning songs "The Way You Look Tonight" and "The Last Time I Saw Paris" will be featured.
A special reception for SRU friends and alumni will follow the concert in Heinz Hall's Mozart Room.
The bus will leave SRU's Russell Wright Alumni House and Conference Center at 1 p.m.
Dress Circle tickets are $95 per person; Family Circle tickets are $65. SRU students may purchase tickets in the Dress Circle for $37; Family Circle, $21. All tickets include transportation and reception admission.
The story of "Cinderella" will be brought to life in Septime Webre's 2 p.m. April 25 performance in Pittsburgh's Benedum Center. The show will offer humor, beautiful costumes and dazzling sets combined with Sergei Prokofiev's score for the timeless story. The classic ballet production is designed for all ages.
The SRU trip includes an "SRU Only" lunch at the Benedum Center offering either roast beef with Boursin cheese on a baguette, garlic chicken with red peppers on a baguette or cheese, mushrooms, onions and other veggies in a wrap. A personal back stage tour will follow lunch.
The bus will leave the Russell Wright Alumni House and Conference Center at 10:45 a.m.
Tickets are $60, including transportation, lunch, back stage tour and the production. SRU students will pay $37 for orchestra seating or $20 second tier seating.
Credit card ticket orders for either program may be placed by calling 724.738.2018 or 1.800.438.7625. Refunds will not be issued unless a performance is canceled.
