SRU inaugurating Karen Riley as 18th president, Nov. 3
The formal inauguration and investiture ceremony for Slippery Rock University President Karen took place on Nov. 3, at Miller Theater in the Performing Arts Center.
Riley became SRU’s 18th president on July 1, 2023. She was selected by the Board of Governors of Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education on Dec. 21, 2022, following a nationwide search.
The ceremony included delegates and representatives from higher education institutions and professional societies, trustees, distinguished guests, faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members. Daniel Greenstein, chancellor of Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education invested Riley as president and Cynthia Shapira, chair of the Board of Governors, administered the oath of office and brought greetings on behalf of the board.
Riley was previously the provost and chief academic officer at Regis University in Denver, Colorado, from 2021-23, and dean of the College of Education at the University of Denver from 2014-21.
