Resources and Services for Faculty and Staff

The Success Coaching team partners with SRU faculty and staff in a variety of ways. Please review our most common resources and partnerships here. Reach out to us if you have any questions or if you would like to explore a new partnership design.

GROUP COACHING AND CLASSROOM VISITS

We provide group coaching workshops as class presentations and as collaborative programs/co-hosted events. Our workshops are active and empower students to develop the skills they need to thrive in their college journey.

All sessions will include a brief overview of the Success Coaching Program. To schedule a Success Coaching class presentation, please complete this presentation request form.

LEARNING AND STUDY STRATEGY INVENTORY (LASSI)

The LASSI is a 10-scale, 60-item assessment of student’s awareness about and use of learning and study strategies related to skill, will and self-regulation components of strategic learning. The LASSI was developed at the University of Texas at Austin by Claire Ellen Weinstein, Ph.D., David R. Palmer, Ph.D., and Taylor W. Acee, Ph.D. Learn more about the psyhcometric properties and validity of the instrument via H&H Publishing.

The Success Coaching program provides codes to all SRU students to take the LASSI initially during their first term at SRU and again one year later as a part of their academic coaching journey and reflection on their growth. We have worked with FYRST seminar instructors, athletic coaches, specific student cohorts (such as JumpStart and Bonner), and student groups (such as the Emerging Leadership Experience) to distribute the LASSI. If you are interested in providing the LASSI to your students or reviewing LASSI data with our team, please contact us.

WHAT DOES THE LASSI MEASURE?

H&H Publishing categorizes LASSI scales into three areas of students’ learning strategies: skill, will, and self-regulated learning.

  • Skill Component of Strategic Learning: Information Processing, Selecting Main Ideas and Test Strategies
  • Will Component of Strategic Learning: Attitude, Motivation and Anxiety
  • Self-regulation Component of Strategic Learning: Concentration, Time Management, Self-Testing and Using Academic Resources

In our analyses of LASSI results and SRU student academic acheivement, we have found that Test Strategies scores are statistically significant in predicting student persistence during the first-year. Learn more by partnering with us on our academic success and persistence initiatives.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER STUDENTS TAKE THE LASSI?

After completing and submitting the LASSI, students will receive via email a summary report of their scores with an explanation to make sense of the results. The Success Coaching team encourages learners to take specific action steps to improve their strategic learning and study skills. The Success Coaching team also provides coaching sessions and worksheets to help students reflect and debrief their scores and next steps.

CIVITAS LEARNING STUDENT SUCCESS PLATFORM
