Program Goals
 

Goal 1: Professional Proficiency:

Students graduating with a degree in business administration will have acquired the necessary skills and knowledge to meet professional competencies as business professionals and global citizens. 

Students will demonstrate:

  • An understanding of the history and vocabulary unique to business disciplines.
  • Knowledge of procedures, concepts, and technical business skills through practical application (forecasting, budgeting, financial statement analyses, business plans, strategic planning, and etc.). 
  • The ability to read and interpret financial statements in the decision-making process.
  • Effective team work and collaborative skills in a simulated business environment.
     

Goal 2: Critical Thinking/Problem Solving:

Students graduating with a degree in business administration will demonstrate effective critical thinking and problem solving skills.

Students will effectively evaluate and resolve business or other contemporary challenges using appropriate problem solving methodology demonstrating good decision-making skills and application of knowledge. Students will correctly apply analytical techniques to analyze and solve quantitative financial, managerial, and statistical problems and exercises.

Goal 3: Communication Skills:

Students graduating with a degree in business administration will demonstrate competency in oral and written communication skills.

  • Writing:  Students will create written business and professional documents in appropriate style and format. 
  • Oral Communication:  Students graduating with a degree in business administration will deliver an effective oral presentation on a business and/or professional topic. 

Goal 4: Information Technology:

Students will demonstrate proficiency in the use of computers and software to manage information with statistical analysis, spreadsheet, data base, and other appropriate applications. Students will use appropriate technology to enhance oral presentations and written assignments in their coursework. 

Goal 5: Ethics: 

Students graduating with a degree in business administration will demonstrate an understanding of the legal environment and ethical standards of business and an awareness of the implications of their behavior and actions as a business professional.  Students will apply an appropriate framework for examining ethical dilemmas and be able to (1) identify ethical issues and stakeholders, (2) evaluate alternative course(s) of action, and (3) formulate an appropriate action plan.

Orvis receives President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching
Bruce Orvis, associate professor in Slippery Rock University’s School of Business, was honored Saturday as the 2013-14 recipient of the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching as part of the University’s annual Academic Honors Convocation.

SRU cited as a Best Regional University by U.S. News
Slippery Rock University has again been included in the 2015 edition of the U.S. News Best Colleges with a “Best Regional University - North” ranking.

SRU Alpha Kappa Psi honorary earns ‘Chapter of Year’ award
The Slippery Rock University chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi, Iota Upsilon, was named a “Chapter of the Year” award recipient for its accomplishments during the 2013-14 year.

Alpha Kappa Psi is a co-ed, professional business fraternity with more than 220 chapters on college campuses across the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom.

Delta Mu Delta outstanding student
Ms. Abby Schon, a member of the newly established business honorary, has been selected by the Delta Mu Delta central office as the regional outstanding student of business.
