SPOTLIGHT

Globalization

As students enter the workforce they will encounter a highly globalized business environment. The economic and financial structures of the world’s countries are intertwined with each other.  This global environment is complex, fast paced, and diverse with respect to culture, socio-economic, political, and social dynamics.  To succeed in this globalized business environment, students need to acquire new skills and understanding that goes far beyond traditional domestic business practices.  The School of Business is committed to preparing our students to become business leaders in this global environment.

  • “Issues in Global Business” is a core business course that every student must complete.  This course lays the foundation for understanding the challenges of operating a business entity in the global environment.
  • Every student is required to complete an additional course that has a focus on the challenges of globalization as they pertain to his / her major field of study.
  • Students also have the opportunity to enroll in additional courses to study the culture, history, and languages of different regions of the world such as China, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.  They can also complete a minor in many of these areas of study.
  • Students have the opportunity to participate in international experiences that are integral parts of various business and liberal studies courses.  They have the opportunity to travel with their class to countries such as England, Spain, Italy and Costa Rica.
  • Students have the opportunity to spend a semester abroad taking courses at universities in Australia, Spain, Korea, and Ireland to further enhance their cross-cultural experience.
  • Slippery Rock University values diversity as an integral part of its campus life.  Each year “Inter-nations Week” is celebrated. The diverse community of our international students presents different aspects of their own culture through art, music, crafts, food, presentations, and social functions.  Inter-nations Week ends with the “International Dinner” where everyone comes together to enjoy the food and culture of the nations represented by students on our campus.
