Nearly 200 college faculty, college students, high school teachers, and people who work in science in business and medicine gave up their Saturday for close to 500 junior high and high school students doing scientific research here in Western Pennsylvania
THANK YOU, JUDGES! You help make the day a success and a memorable day for the students.
Dr. William R. Sigmund, Professor of Biology and University Coordinator, introduced Dr. Philip K. Way, Slippery Rock University Provost and Vice-President for Academic Affairs, who welcomed and thanked the judges at the luncheon at Weisenfluh Dining Hall. Bob Penrose and Leah Ann Williams, Region IX Co-Directors, conducted the meeting. After the judging was completed, judges attended the Judges Social sponsored by Dr. Susan Hannam, Dean of the College of Health, Environment, and Science.
Personal note from Dr.Sigmund, University Coordinator:
Several years ago, Region IX presented me with an original PJAS medallion and a donation to the university to fund an annual award in my name. I am pleased that I have been able to present a $200 (now $300) award each year to a biology major with preference to those interested in teaching. At the annual Natural Sciences and Mathematics Honors Banquet, the "William R. Sigmund PJAS Award" has been presented to seven deserving students, most recently Biology senior Kaitlyn Eadie. I am extremely grateful to the Region IX Committee for this wonderful recognition. I am especially honored since I know how much work the other committee members put into this meeting each year, as it is truly a group effort, and I accept this award on behalf of all of them. Thank you, Region IX Committee!
