2011-2012 Athletic Training Education Program Graduate Assistant



Ms. Sarah Nestico is a recent graduate of the Slippery Rock University’s Athletic Training Education Program. While in the ATEP, Sarah was an active member of the SRU Athletic Training Association and served a one-year presidency during her senior year. She also holds memberships in the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, Eastern Athletic Trainers’ Association, and Pennsylvania Athletic Trainer’s Society. Sarah was a PATS Society Scholarship Nominee in the spring of 2010, participant in the PATS student symposium, and EATA abstract presentations in spring of 2010, recipient of the Shoemaker Scholarship in the fall of 2009, and was a four year member of the SRU Dean’s List.

Completing her undergraduate studies in May of 2011, Sarah returned to the ROCK in August of 2011 to pursue a Master’s of Science degree in Adapted Physical Activity. Upon graduation from her master’s program in May of 2012, Sarah anticipates returning to her home town of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and practicing athletic training in a non-traditional or clinical setting.

Ms. Krista Herbst received her undergraduate degree in Athletic Training at Ashland University in May 2010. She is currently enrolled in her second year of the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at SRU. After graduation, she would like to work in a sports medicine rehabilitation or orthopaedics setting.

Mr. Eric Avila obtained his BS from Slippery Rock University in December of 2010 in the major of Athletic Training. He is pursuing his Masters degree in Slippery Rock University’s Adapted Physical Activity Program. While working in New York City, Mr. Eric Avila provided physical rehabilitative treatments for patients of Paspa Physical Therapy.

Mr. Avila remains an active member of the National Athletic Trainers ‘Association (NATA), Eastern Athletic Trainers’ Association (EATA) by attending annual conference meetings.
