Mr. Scott Zema, an Alum of SRU's Athletic Training Program, has been an Assistant Professor in the Department of Exercise and Rehabilitative Sciences since August of 1999. He earned both his B.S. in Allied Health/Athletic Training in 1990 and his M.Ed. in Health and Physical Education with an emphasis in Instruction and Program Development in 1991.
Upon completion of his degrees, he became Head Athletic Trainer/Instructor and Director of Athletic Medicine at Olivet College in Michigan. He was involved in the state athletic trainers association, as well as the Eaton County Sports Medicine Committee while at Olivet.
Mr. Zema spent the next six years at Alfred University in Alfred, NY as Head Athletic Trainer; Chair, Division of Athletic Training; and Assistant Professor. He was instrumental in the design and implementation of the Bachelor of Science Degree in Athletic Training at Alfred University. In addition to building the curriculum, Mr. Zema also set-up Clinical Sites for his athletic training students internship experiences.
At "The Rock" Mr. Zema serves as the Associate-Coordinator for Athletic Training Services and the Clinical Site Coordinator, where he constructed contacts and set up affiliate sites for student's off-site experiences. Mr. Zema has worked with the NCAA Division I Wrestling Program at SRU, and currently serves as the Head Football Athletic Trainer at “The Rock.”
Mr. Zema is a member of the BOC Examination Development Committee, and is an examiner for the national certification examination. Mr. Zema also serves the BOC as District 2 Representative of the Examination Administration Committee. Mr. Zema is a past winner of the Daniel Libera Service Award, presented for outstanding contributions to the Board of Certification. Mr. Zema was instrumental in bringing the BOC examination to Slippery Rock, and has served as a Test Site Administrator.
In addition to his duties as an athletic trainer and professor, Mr. Zema has also served as the Head Athletic Trainer for the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) NCAA Division I and III All-Star Game; as an athletic trainer at NCAA Division I Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Championships; as a host athletic trainer for NCAA Division I and III Ice Hockey; and as host athletic trainer for New York State District V football, soccer, and basketball championships.
Mr. Zema is certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, as well as Licensed in the States of Pennsylvania and New York.
Mr. Zema is originally from Freeport, PA and currently resides in Harrisville, PA with his wife Kerry and daughter, Nora.
