CLIMATE CHANGING EVENT: Thirteen SRU students participated in “Power Shift 07,” the first national youth summit on climate change, held at College Park, Md. The three-day event, organized in conjunction with the Campus Climate Challenge, included panel discussions, workshops and a Capitol Hill rally. The events were designed to increase awareness and educate students about climate change. Event speakers included political activist Ralph Nader and Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. “To see what other universities are doing is extremely inspirational. If they can do it, so can we,” said Jeremiah Hyldahl, a senior environmental geoscience major from Guys Mills. “Power Shift was an amazing experience. To be involved with such a life-changing and world-changing event was incredible,” said Sarah Lawlor, a junior environmental studies major from Edinboro. Gathered for the event (standing from left) were Zach Schmitt of Beaver, Hyldahl, Kelly Sager of Cranberry Township, Levi Markwood of Grove City, Eric Klug of Wexford, Lawlor, Dan Cannon of Westlake, Ohio, John Lewis of Murrysville, Sam Piel of Butler, and (seated) James D. Goetz of Portersville and Rachel DeWolf of Marshall, Mich. (Attending, but not in photo were Katie George of Wooster, Ohio, and Brooke Kosar of Mars, Pa.)
