The Lexicon of Sustainability

Date: April 14 - April 18

Time: Ongoing

Location: Student Union

The Lexicon of Sustainability examines “Food and Farming in America” through the use of information art to describe the terms and solutions that define sustainability.  The project is based upon the premise that people can’t be expected to live more sustainable lives if they do not even know the most basic terms and principles that define sustainability.  Douglas Gayeton, filmmaker and photographer, and Laura Howard-Gayeton, producer, traveled across the United States to collect and interpret the language of sustainability from the foremost practitioners in the field.  Douglas and Laura believe that the first step towards fixing our food system is to understand the key terms that define sustainability. Large format information art brings to life the terms that comprise The Lexicon of Sustainability, from “Community Supported Agriculture” demonstrated at Cure Organic Farm located in Boulder, Colorado to “Permaculture” practiced at the Regenerative Design Institute in Bolinas, California.  The project educates consumers about their increased responsibility for how they relate to their food, in order to create a healthy and safe food system in America.
