 January 2012
  • January 4-7: Dr. Richard J. Marchand presented his paper with Dr. Timothy McDevitt (Elizabethtown College) and Dr. Roberto Triggiani (University of Virginia) entitled "Structural decomposition, spectral analysis, and exponential stability for a third order PDE arising in high-intensity ultrasound" at the Joint Mathematics Meetings of the American Mathematical Society (AMS) and the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) in Boston, MA.
  • January 4-7: Dr. Timothy McDevitt (Elizabethtown College) presented his paper with Dr. Richard J. Marchand and Dr. Irena Lasiecka (University of Virginia) entitled "Boundary control of a beam equation with non-monotone boundary conditions" at the Joint Math Meetings in Boston, MA.
  • January 4-7: Dr. Rachelle Bouchat participated in the Young Mathematician's Network and Project NExT Poster Session at the Joint Math Meetings in Boston, MA by presenting the poster "The Betti Numbers on the Linear Strand for Path Ideals of Rooted Trees".

  • September 13-18: Dr. Jeffrey Forrest presented "Commonality and Differences Between Interval Analysis and Grey Systems Theory" at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers International Conference on Grey Systems and Intelligent Services in Nanjing, China.

  • August 3-7: Dr. Jacqueline Jensen presented "Teaching Minitab by Student Memo Writing" and co-organized the panel session "Moving up the Career Ladder in Academia" at MathFest in Lexington, KY..
  • August 3-7: Dr. Robert Vallin presented "The Diagonal Trick for KenKen Puzzles" and co-coordinated Math Jeopardy at MathFest held in Lexington, KY..

  • July: Dr. Jacqueline Jensen was awarded a grant for her project entitled "Inquiry Based Learning Materials for Financial Mathematics".

  • June 2-4: Dr. Robert Vallin served as a panelist for the New Users Panel at the 14th Annual Legacy of R. L. Moore Conference in Washington, DC.

  • May: Dr. Rachelle Bouchat's paper entitled "Path Ideals of Rooted Trees and Their Graded Betti Numbers" was published in the Journal of Combinatorial Theory, Series A.

  • April 18:  Dr. Jacqueline Jensen delivered the talk "Unknotting Conjectures, or Everything I need to know I learned by being a math major" at the Pi Mu Epsilon ceremony held at Washington and Jefferson College.
  • April 9:  Dr. Rachelle Bouchat, Dr. Jacqueline Jensen, and Dr. Robert Vallin delivered talks at the Allegheny Mountain Section meeting of the Mathematical Association of America held at Clarion University.  Dr. Bouchat's talk was entitled "Minimal Free Resolutions and Cellular Complexes", Dr. Jensen's talk was entitled "An Applied Approach to Minitab Projects for Elementary Statistics", and Dr. Vallin's talk was entitled "Some Mathematics of KenKen Puzzles".

  • March:  Dr. Robert Vallin delivered the talk "Sizes of Ana Sets" at a colloquium at Eastern Kentucky University located in Richmond, KY.

  • January 24:  Dr. Richard Marchand's paper entitled "Computational Analysis of Rates of Energy Decay in Elastic Beams" will appear in the Volume 74 Number 4 (February 15, 2011) publication of Nonlinear Analysis.
  • January 6-9:  Dr. Robert Vallin was an organizer and panelist for the session "For MAA Student Chapter Advisors:  Dynamic Answers to Your Questions" which was part of the AMS/MAA Joint Meetings held in New Orleans, LA.  Dr. Robert Vallin also served as co-organizer of the Undergraduate Student Poster Session at the Joint Meetings.
  • January 1:  Dr. Robert Vallin's paper "Creating slowly oscillating sequences and slowly oscillating continuous functions" was published in the 80th volumne of the journal Acta Math. Univ. Comenianae.
  • January 1:  Dr. Jeffrey Forrest along with a colleague, Sifeng Liu of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, published a monograph entitled "Grey Systems:  Theory and Applications" through Springer-Verlag, Berlin.

  • December 5:  Dr. Rachelle Bouchat delivered the talk "The Betti Numbers on the Linear Strand and a Bound on the Regularity for Path Ideals of Rooted Trees" at the Canadian Mathematical Society's winter meeting in Vancouver, BC (Canada).

  • November 12:  Dr. Rachelle Bouchat was awarded an AWM-NSF travel grant to attend and deliver a talk at the Canadian Mathematical Society's winter meeting in Vancouver, BC (Canada) on December 3-6.
  • November 15:  Dr. Robert Vallin gave the talk "Smallness and Sums with Ana Sets" at the Mathematics Colloquium at Youngstown State University.

  • October 29:  Dr. Richard Marchand has been named to an 11-month distinguished visiting professor position at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.

  • September 16:  Dr. Jacqueline Jensen gave a talk entitled "Greeting Card Mathematics" at Hood College in Frederick, Maryland.
  • September 18:  Dr. Rachelle Bouchat gave a presentation entitled "Online Cheating and Plagiarism" at the University of Pittsburgh as part of the Allegheny Mountain Section NExT (New Experiences in Teaching) program.
  • September 24-25:  Dr. Robert Vallin gave a talk entitled "Three Functions Every Undergraduate Should Know" at the 38th annual conference "Analysis in the Undergraduate Curriculum" held at Miami University in Oxford, OH.

  • August 5-August 7:  Dr. Rachelle Bouchat co-coordinated the organization of six sessions for Project NExT held as a part of MathFest which was hosted in Pittsburgh, PA.
  • August 5-August 7:  Dr. Lyn Miller co-coordinated the student paper session and student paper session judging held as a part of MathFest which was hosted in Pittsburgh, PA.
  • August 5-August 7:  Dr. Robert Vallin co-organized the Undergraduate and Graduate Student Receptions, the twenty-three Undergraduate Stduent Paper Sessions (including over 150 student talks), the Graduate Student Poster Session, The Graduate Student Contributed Paper Session on Expository Talks, and Math Jeopardy as a part of MathFest which was hosted in Pittsburgh, PA. He also was in charge of both the Undergraduate and the Graduate Student Travel Grants.

  • April 9-April 10:  Dr. Rachelle Bouchat presented the talk "Path Ideals of Rooted Trees" at the Allegheny Mountain Section meeting of the MAA hosted by the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.
  • April 9-April 10:  Dr. Richard Marchand presented the talk "Boundary Stabilization of a Thermoelastic Beam" at the Allegheny Mountain Section meeting of the MAA hosted by the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.

  • January 13-16, 2010:  Dr. Rachelle Bouchat presented the talk "The Linear Strand of Path Ideals of Trees" at the Joint Meetings of the MAA and the AMS held in San Francisco, CA.
  • January 13-16, 2010:  Dr. Robert Vallin co-organized the Graduate School Fair, the Undergraduate Poster Session, the "Math Club in a Box" Contributed Paper Session, and the Graduate and Undergraduate Receptions at the Joint Math Meetings held in San Francisco, CA. He was also in charge of both the Undergraduate and Graduate Student Travel Grants.
  • January 29-31, 2010:  Dr. Rachelle Bouchat accompanied students Karissa King, Jessica Hoffman, and Krista Scott to the NCUWM conference for undergraduate women in mathematics held in Lincoln, Nebraska.  She also served as a panelist for minority women in mathematics.
