SPOTLIGHT

Meet our Furry Friends!

Storm Harbor Equestrian Center is home to twelve therapeutic horses. All of our horses were donated to the University for our Therapeutic Riding Program. Their mission is to provide equine assisted activities to riders with disabilities as well as to provide a learning opportunity for the two Slippery Rock Equestrian Teams.  We are so thankful for those who have donated these wonderful horses, without them our program wouldn’t be the same!

CASPER

Information
 

Casper was donated in 2005. He was one of the first horses to enter our program.

He is one of the barn favorites because he is very sweet and obedient. He is our only "white" horse in the barn and with that he is known for being the most dirty :)

Casper is white like the famous ghost "Casper the friendly ghost"

 

WENDY

Information
 

Wendy was donated in 2005.  She is a registered Quarter Horse, with the name, "Wendy's Proud Man."

Wendy is a great all around horse to have in the barn. She's quiet and calm but she loves to run!

Mars, PA                      Wendy was shown in western pleasure and halter classes by her previous owner.

Wendy is one of the quickest horses in the barn!

 

LIVER

Information
 

Liver was donated in 2006.  Her Registered American Haflinger name is "Liver Puddin"

Liver is one of the barn favorites! She is very calm and reliable. Liver is one of those horses you just want to wrap your arms around! She's as solid as a rock with a heart of gold.

Don't let Livers size deceive you.. her short and stalky legs give her the power of a draft horse!

 

BUD

Information
 

Bud has been with our program for a long time!

Bud is our smallest horse in the barn. He works great with our tiny riders. there's hardly a day that goes by that Bud doesn't have his hair braided, in pony tails or a funny shape clipped on his hip. He puts up with a lot and for that we cherish him!

Bud has to be body clipped at least 2 times a year. Typically we'll clip a fun shape on his back hip. One time he was clipped to look like he had zebra stripes!

BAILEY

Information
 

Bailey was donated in 2008.

Bailey was previously training to be a team penning horse, so she is very responsive to her rider.

Bailey is a Diva both in the arena and outside. She is one of the barn favorites because of her coloring and her long blonde hair.

Bailey knows all the western tricks. With the right rider she'll show you what she's made of.

HARLEY

Information
 

Harley was donated in 2009.

Harley was a Special Olympic Horse. He competed with his previous owner in a number of special olympc horse shows.  

Harley is a high spirited horse. He loves to be in the arena and out on the trail. Over the years he has proved to be a great addition to our program.

Harley is one of our only horses who knows how to bow for a treat :)

ZIPPY

Information
 

Zippy was donated in 2010. He was born in Carbondale Illinois and his registered name is "Budas Impressive Zip"

Before he came to Storm Harbor, Zippy was a western pleasure horse. 

Zippy lives up to his name, but he works great with any level rider. He is a great all around horse to have here at our barn!

SMOOCH

Information
 

Smooch was donated in 2008. Her registered name is "Rival's Lil Dee"

Smooch is one of the barn favorites! She is very sweet and gentle. Smooch is a western pleasure dream! One thing about her is that she meets riders at their level which is why she is such a great horse.

Smooch is a true Southern Belle. She was born on a farm in Nashville Tennessee.

 

ABBEY

Information
 

Abbey was donated in 2006. Her registered name is "Lil Paradise Sonata"

Abbey is one of the most reliable horses at the barn. Our riders love riding Abbey. She has a bit of a sassy personality but she's always ready to work!

 Abbey has an extra gait. It's like a step between a walk and a trot.

ANNIE

Information
 

Annie was donated in 2012. 

Annie is our newest member of the family! She was trained to show in western pleasure and now she is used as an all around horse for our lessons and in the equestrian team shows.

We are excited about having her here and seeing what she can bring to our program.

CHUNKEY

Information
 

Chunkey was donated in 2007.

Chunkey came to us from George Junior, but he used to be a foxhunter.

Chunkey is one of our biggest horses here at the barn!

Chunkey is camera shy.. for being the biggest horse in the barn, he's also the most affraid :)

RUSTY

Information
 

Rusty was donated in 2012. His Registered name is "Equipped by Zipp" 

Rusty is our other big horse in the barn! Rusty is an uncolored Appaloosa.. which means he doesn't have any spots like our horse Harley.

His size intimidates a lot of people but his riders love his big trot!

Information
 

Charlie loves to meet new people! He also enjoys sitting on staff members' papers while they try to get work done.

SCRAPPER

Information
 

Scrapper is our scaredy cat! She'll jump at every little movement.

Scrapper is the fiercest hunter in the barn but she loves to cuddle with stuffed animals :)

MOLLY

Information

  

She spends most of her days sleeping on a cozy chair somewhere inside. At night, we believe she terrorizes the other cats with all of her pent up energy :) 

Molly is the friendliest barn cat you'll ever meet!

Molly is one of the barn favorites because she is so cuddley!
