Associate Professor - Design
Ms. Edwards holds an MFA in Painting from Brooklyn College and a BS in Art Education from Mansfield University. Since teaching at Slippery Rock University her artwork has been included in over 35 exhibitions in various galleries in Pennsylvania, including The Erie Art Museum (Erie) The Spinning Plate Gallery (Pittsburgh), The Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts (New Castle), and Pittsburgh Filmmakers (Pittsburgh). Her work has also been included in various exhibitions at the Ward-Nasse Gallery in New York City.
Ms. Edwards grew up on the south side of Pittsburgh and has always been fascinated by the industrial architecture, towers and bridges in the area. She is currently using digital photography to focus on the design and surface textures of these structures. Ms. Edwards’ artwork is primarily two-dimensional: a combination of painting, drawing and digital media.
Ms. Edwards has been teaching various studio art classes at Slippery Rock University since 2002, including design, painting, digital media, and drawing. She was hired as a graphic designer for Arthur Andersen in 1984, and was the Operations Manager for the Metro New York Media Center until 1997. She worked as a freelance graphic artist at various companies in New York City and continues with freelance design work. Among other assignments, she assisted with projects for Del Monte Pet Foods, The Pittsburgh Children’s Museum, WQED Multimedia, the Entertainment Technologies Center and the Sloan Foundation Television Project at Carnegie Mellon University.
