SPOTLIGHT

Lucy Isacco Sack Scholarships
Lucy Isacco Sack , Professor Emeritus

The Lucy Isacco Sack Scholarships were founded in recognition of the outstanding service of Professor Emeritus Lucy Isacco Sack who was a founding member of the SRU Department of Dance and served as chairperson for 10 years.

LIS Freshman/Transfer Student Scholarship

All freshmen and transfer students, once they are current and active dance majors at Slippery Rock University, will be candidates for a scholarship.  The Department of Dance will give up to $500 in scholarship money to an outstanding freshman or transfer student who demonstrates an exceptional work ethic, motivation, professionalism and talent.  This money will be applied toward the student’s sophomore year tuition.  Only those students who have demonstrated a commitment and dedication to the program will be considered.  Required dance QPA and overall GPA will also be considered by the scholarship committee. Applications will be sought during the spring semester, and scholarship awards will be announced by April of each year. See application requirements and guidelines on the D2L Dance Page under "content."

LIS Diversity Scholarship

Up to $250 is available for students of diversity, including men, to be used toward the tuition of their following academic year.  Prospective students must demonstrate a passion and commitment for dance as an art form, and demonstrate maturity and professionalism, in addition to involvement in dance department activities and events.  Dance GPA and overall GPA will also be considered by the scholarship committee. Applications will be sought during the spring semester, and scholarship awards will be announced by April of each year. See application requirements and guidelines on the D2L Dance Page under "content."

LIS Academic Year Scholarship

The Department of Dance will offer one dance major up to a $1000.00 scholarship.  Sophomores and juniors are eligible for this award.  The money will be applied to the student’s fall and spring tuition ($500.00 each semester).  Receiving scholarship monies will be determined by successful completion of the previous semester (3.0 GPA – Dance and a 2.7 GPA – overall), and involvement in dance department events and activities to be reviewed and approved by the scholarship committee.  Items such as class attendance, participation and work ethic will also be considered.  Applications will be sought during the spring semester, and scholarship awards will be announced by April of each year. See application requirements and guidelines on the D2L Dance Page under "content."

Joanne McKeag Scholarship

A $250.00 scholarship will be awarded to a double major in education and dance or an education major with a minor in dance.  The applicant should be a student completing their sophomore year at Slippery Rock University.  The scholarship money will be applied to their junior year tuition.  The applicant should be actively involved in departmental, university and community dance activities and have a minimum 2.75 GPA.  This scholarship is renewable.  The criteria for renewal will be the same as the criteria for selection. Applications will be sought during the spring semester, and scholarship awards will be announced by April of each year. See application requirements and guidelines on the D2L Dance Page under “content.”

LIS Summer Study Scholarship

Two to three scholarships of up to $300 are available for summer study for current SRU students (freshmen to juniors).  Money will be directly applied to the tuition of an approved summer workshop/conference. If the tuition is less than $300.00, the scholarship committee will determine if additional money should be awarded for other expenses, such as housing and/or transportation. Scholarship recipients are expected to participate fully in all aspects of the summer workshop they attend. A brief report describing the workshop and the benefits gained must be submitted at the start of the fall semester. Applications will be sought during the spring semester, and scholarship awards will be announced by April of each year. See application requirements and guidelines on the D2L Dance Page under “content.”
